How much does a pet portrait cost?

The price depends on type of portrait, size, and number of pets, but in general:

  • Simple & Classic: starts at $320

  • Fancy & Styled: starts at $480

  • Colorful & Splashy: starts at $200

Do you ship? How much does it cost?

I do ship within the United States only, for now. For the standard sizes I offer, shipping is included in the price.

When do I pay?

Half the payment is due up front. The rest is due after you're happy with the final product, prior to shipping or delivery.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept cash (in person), credit cards, Venmo, Cashapp, Zelle, and Paypal. No personal checks, sorry! I almost got scammed once.

What kinds of pet portraits do you offer?

Simple & Classic

Fancy & Styled

Colorful & Splashy

How long does a portrait take?

My typical turnaround is about 10-12 weeks, but it can be longer depending on my workload. If you need yours sooner, let me know and I'm sure we can work it out!

What is the process like?

At the beginning, you tell me everything you have in mind for the portrait (and if you're not the creative type, don't worry, I'll help you figure it out). Then, if needed, I'll submit a digital sketch for your review, before I start painting.

What materials do you use?

For the Simple & Classic and Fancy & Styled portraits, I use acrylic paint on canvas. For the Colorful & Splashy portraits, I use watercolor on paper.

Do I need a frame?

For the Simple & Classic and Fancy & Styled portraits, paint is wrapped around the edges of the canvas and it can go straight on the wall. If you prefer it framed, you can still get it frame though. For the Colorful & Splashy portraits, they are on paper and will need a frame (not provided by me).

Where can I view examples of your pet portraits?

You can visit this page, or follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or Bluesky (heads up though, I'm not good at updating my social media!)

PET PORTRAIT FAQs
ILLUSTRATION FAQs

What kind of illustration work have you done?

I have primarily worked on book covers, picture books, and restaurant menus.

Is your literature work published?

My work has been published by UL Press, River Road Publishing, Pelican Publishing, Arcadia Publishing, and Crimson Dragon Books. In addition to that, I have worked directly for authors who have self published with Ingram-Spark. My most wide-reaching work is the illustrations for the book The Mermaids of New Orleans by Sally Asher (published by UL Press).

What are your rates?

My rates depend on the many variables that come with an illustration project. If you'd like to discuss collaborating on your project, fill out this form to reach out!

What medium(s) do you use?

I typically work in gouache with digital retouching, but I can work in watercolor and digital mediums as well.

How long do you need to illustrate a book?

That varies according to the length of the book, level of detail and color in the illustrations, and just what my workload looks like at any given time - but if you reach out with more details I can tell you more!

Do you have agent representation?

Not currently, but I am looking for it. Holler if you're an agent and you're interested!

Do you offer any related graphic design services?

Yes! I can do the full range of services to help bring our collaborative illustration project into the real world. I can do book layouts, ebook layouts (including KDP-friendly designs), typesetting, typeface design, font design, and vector drawing, just to name a few.

Where can I view your illustration work?

I have a sampling of my work available on this very website!

GENERAL FAQs

Do you do other kinds of portraits besides dogs and cats?

Yes! I'm game for anything - any kind of animal, including humans! I also do house and business portraits, and I'll surely do some other kind of portrait that hasn't been invented yet.

Do you have any art I can just...buy?

Not a lot! Working on that.

I'm interested in a piece I've seen on your site. Is it for sale?

If you've seen work on this site that you'd like to buy, but it's not for sale in my shop, that probably means I don't have it anymore. If you want it, let me know and we can discuss prints or me creating something for you.

I just bought a book from your shop, and I'd like you to sign it. What should I do?

No problem! Just shoot me a message.

What is the ship time for items in your shop?

You can expect to receive items within 2 weeks (sorry, I'm not Amazon!). If you need it sooner than that, let me know and we'll work something out.

Do you use AI?

No. AI image generation works by using the works of human artists, only to then be used to replace us in the workforce. Not only will I not use it because I simply don't need to, but I believe to do so is an act of betrayal to my fellow artists. The quality and consistency of my work is too important to me, and I have the skills to produce the work without generating images.

I believe that AI generators could be a useful tool in the process, but since they are built off the work of living artists and are violating labor rights, there is no current iteration of an AI image generator that I find ethical.

Will you paint an image that I used AI to generate?

I am not the right artist for that job. AI image generators use the work of my and my fellow artists to produce the images; for me to copy it for you would be plagiarism.
